Lucyna Małgorzata Szok - Ciechacka
Lucyna Małgorzata Szok - CiechackaWhen I was born I was able to hear, but due to unknown medical reasons I become deaf. For people who are able to hear and who are unfamiliar with the Reign of Silence consider my loss of hearing as a drama. I see it differently. I don?t feel as if I had lost something, instead I believe My Deafness is a beautiful gift of fate. If I were able to hear, my life would not be so vivid, graceful and full of emotions. I got my primary and secondary education in public schools, hence I only started to discover the Reign of Silence more profoundly during my pedagogical studies at Podlaska Academy in Siedlce, where I had the pleasure to study with a large group of deaf people. Basically, I had always been drawing comic-strips, but only during my studies I came up with the idea of comic books featuring the deaf and their joys and sorrows of everyday life communing with hearing-able people. I must admit, that my drawing skills have been honed during special cartoonist workshops in England. It was there in London where my creativity bloomed, so to speak. I work now as a graphic designer, satirist and a cartoonist. My job is my passion, and as I see it, my daughter Basia inherited this passion from me. In my spare time I spend it with my daughter, I go for motorcycle road-trips with my husband Jakub, or I travel alone. Motorcycles are my love and the lonely ride across the wilderness gives me the inner-tranquility.
Justyna Kieruzalska
The painting is somewhat in my veins and I have always been painting. I regard art as good fun, but also as sort of mental therapy and meditation cleansing the body and mind... For years I have been creating only one motif- portraits. My artworks are inspired by profoundly different and expressive characters from the world of ?Pop-art?. These intensively vivid colors and potent contours with thick outlines... The painting is gradually evolving in the direction of simple and synthetical forms just as like those fancy Photoshop filters.
Grzegorz Ślemp
My name is Grzegorz Ślemp. I am currently a student of Photography at PWSFTviT in Lodz, where I am gaining experience in this field and building up my portfolio. I am also a Graphic Design and Multimedia graduate of WSHE. I specialize in fashion, portrait and commercial photography as well as computer graphics, which I deftly combine when producing wedding photo orders. I have a studio, where I create non-trivial photo-projects.
Teatr Figur Kraków
The international TFK consists of actors, puppeteers, jugglers, artists, drama experts and directors. During performances we use unconventional puppets, shadow theater and imagination. We spread enthusiasm in our workshops. We teach the drama and by the drama. The first TFK public performances took place at the 20th International Street Theaters Festival in July 2007. Since then we perform regularly and we organize workshops. We address our activities towards children aged 8-14 (and their parents). Even though we know few languages, we usually remain silent during our performances. We travel across Krakow and the World and we performed in Okulice, Kalisz, Santa Fe, Wadowice, Tomaszow Mazowiecki and Albuquerque. We play at the backyards, in tents and in theaters.
ŁÓDZKAscenaPANTOMIMY
Łódź Pantomime Scene conducted their activity in different cultural centres in Łódź (Institutional Cultural House ?Eskimo?, Cultural House ?Energetyk?) under the tutelage of Polish Association of the Deaf (PZG), Branch in Łódź, from 1982 to 1992. The Scene was performed constantly untill 1992, producing 8 plays and was awarded in national and international events. In 2003 PZG staff undertook actions to resume the activity of the Scene. Initially we came across difficulties, especially from the younger people who had never encountered pantomime before. Nevertheless we managed to refresh our relations with former actors and other people connected with drama, who all engaged in the full reanimation of the Łódź Pantomime Scene. The newly forged group consists of some experienced pantomime actors from younger than 15 years of age, as well as of ?new blood? mimes of the young generation. Since their reactivation in December 2004 the Scene produced a play ?Mr. Andersen?s enchanted avenue?, which was performed several times in Łódź and at the Festival in Brno in Czech Republic. In 2006 they presented ?The Cinnamon Shops? based on free interpretation of Bruno Schulz, in 2008 the Scene presented a premiere play based on Bolesław Leśmian?s pantomime dramas ?When the reason slumbers?, in 2009 during the Summer Drama Workshops in Połczyn Zdrój the group elaborated a premiere play ?There was a time with no words?. The group remains faithful to the classic pantomime and does not introduce sign language at all. During the III European Festival of Deaf Art The Lodz Pantomime Scene will produce a performance ?The station of passing?.

Jan Szymański
I was born 27 June 1964 in Sanniki. I have spent my childhood in a small village called Załusków in mazowieckie voivodship. Since the age of 6, I lived in Warsaw dormitories near the schools where I gained my education. My adventure with wood carving began in the year 2000, when, at my wife?s instigation, I took a piece of wood and tried to carve something. I didn?t like the carving but my wife and children loved it. They persuaded me to continue wood carving, and today it is my passion. This hasn?t changed, as I carve every day. The only thing that changes is the seasons and definitely my age.
Bogdan Nikadon
I was born in Nowa Ruda in 1964. I lost my hearing at the age of 4 due to a tragic accident. I began my education in a massive school and later I has been transferred to a school for the deaf in Wejherowo. After that, I finished the Zasadnicza Szkoła Zawodowa, and a few years later I passed my matura exam and finished the Building Technical College. My work experience began in the coal mines. I was working as a draftsman. Later I found a job as a Art and Photography instructor in the Culture House in Radkowo, where I currently work. Apart from the work in the Culture House, I also organize workshops and lectures about my artistic passions. I am also often invited to such workshops in primary schools in my voivodship. Such meetings with children and teenagers give me a lot of happiness and galvanize me to further work. I also cooperate with the disabled in Słupc and Nowa Ruda, where I organize Art and Photography integration workshops. I also organize handicraft workshops as part of the school trips. This year, me and my colleague organized a photography competition and exposition for the disabled in Dolnośląskie voivodship. This helped to publish a catalogue about amateur photographers and expositions in Karłowice. Furthermore, we thought up new, unconventional forms of photography expositions. For my long-term work and contribution in the development of culture I received the ?Honored Culture Activist? award in 2004, and in 2007 I received the ?Prometheus? sculpture? from the Culture House in Radkowo.

Teatr - 3 ze Szczecina
Actors from Theatre ?-3?are deaf. They cannot use words nor sound to express their emotions, therefore they use mimicry and body language. Theatre ?-3? functions in Szczecin for over 36 years. The deaf actors are playing under the keen eye of professional actors and directors from the Contemporary Theatre. Theatre ?-3? performed on festivals in Vienna, Salzburg and France. In order to be understood by the foreign audience, they had to learn different sign languages. Arek Pałatyński recalls ?It was very difficult, as I had never come across with this language and I had to ?talk? for fourty minutes! My greatest reward was the applauds and the happiness of the audience.? Actors from Theatre ?-3? would like to convince everyone that they are normal people. They have their dreams: Adam would like to write love poetry, Ania wants to start a family, and Piotr believes that he would be a great Kindergarten teacher. Agata is disappointed: ?Unfortunately, the hearing cannot talk to us, maybe because no one has ever thought them how to do it.?

Małgorzata Zaborniak-Sobczak
?My greatest dream was to work with people and for the people. I wanted especially to learn and communicate using sign language, and I have finally done it! I teach polish during individual rehabilitation classes in Primary School Nr. 2 in Rzeszów, but on the University of Rzeszów, I present the secret arts of sign language to students. I have much satisfaction from both classes. Apart from that, I love music, especially Polish Rock?n?Roll. I also like adventure books. I am also a happy mother of two beautiful little girls.
